Rocker Corey Taylor has revealed that he was sexually assaulted when he was 10 years old.
The Slipknot and Stone Sour frontman reflected on being “raped by someone in the neighbourhood” during an appearance on The Therapist.
“Where we were living at the time – we moved around a lot so obviously I had to make friends quickly,” Taylor recalled. “There was really only one person to hang out with, to play with, and he was this 16-year-old kid.
“And he would invite me over to his house to play music and one day it became something else.”
Taylor said he didn’t tell anyone about what happened because his teenaged abuser threatened to hurt him and his single mother.
“It took me a long time to feel safe. I didn’t tell anybody until I was, probably, 18,” he shared. “By that time, I had found my tribe, as it were, of misfits.”
Taylor also spoke candidly about an suicide attempt in his teens in which he swallowed “a bunch of pills.”
Now a father of three, Taylor said he doesn’t want his children to go through the things he did.
“The darkness is some place I visit,” he said. “I don’t live there.”
