It's the end of an era. 2NE1 have announced they're disbanding.
YG Entertainment announced Nov. 25 in a statement that the exclusive contracts of the members (CL, Bom Park, Minzy Gong and Dara Park) expired back in May 2016. Discussions about disbandment were initially triggered when member Minzy decided to leave YG in April, leaving 2NE1 as a three-member group.
Members CL and Dara have reportedly re-signed contracts as soloists with YG Entertainment. Details about Park Bom's departure from the company are currently unknown.
After back and forth discussions, YG determined that it would be too difficult to move forward with future 2NE1 projects.
Since 2009, the girl group had been captivating audiences around the world. Their bold, eccentric fashions fused with floor-stomping club anthems quickly expanded 2NE1's popularity outside of Asia.
The news of their disbandment comes as a shock to fans all over the world. #ThankYou2NE1 became a worldwide trend on Twitter Friday morning.
