The Royal Mail is spicing up its stamp selection with an official collection of stamps honouring the 30th anniversary of the Spice Girls' formation.
A total of 12 stamps will be available including both individual stamps of Ginger, Sporty, Scary, Baby and Posh, as well as group stamps from moments as iconic as the 1997 BRIT Awards, the London 2012 Olympics and their 1997 film, Spice World.
The press release reads that the stamps acknowledge the influential group and how they "spearheaded their own rise to chart dominance at a time when girl groups were not considered to be commercially viable. Their infectious pop sound and bold ‘Girl Power’ philosophy changed the face of music and inspired a generation of artists.”
Forming in 1994 as a response to the rising boy band phenomenon, Spice Girls struck gold the next year when they signed a management deal with Simon Fuller, who would go on to develop American Idol.
From there they released their debut single, "Wannabe," which went #1 worldwide, followed by their chart-topping albums, 1996's Spice, 1997's Spiceworld and 2000's Forever, before unofficially splitting up in 2001.
The Girls have reunited on multiple occasions, but most notably for tours in 2007 and 2019.
This occasion would make an ideal time for a Spice Girls reunion, however, no official word has been given yet, despite the odd tease by members.
The stamps are set to go on sale on January 11, and will be available in various collectors’ editions. You can pre-order them here. Note: they are only good to use within the United Kingdom. ;)
