Stevie Nicks opened up in an interview with Rolling Stone about her fond memories with longtime friend Tom Petty, and the last time she saw the late rocker.
The two music legends had first met in 1978, which led to the duo creating “Insider” from Petty’s album Hard Promises, followed by “Stop Draggin’ My Heart Around” from Nicks’ Bella Donna album.
The last time Nicks saw Petty was when they performed together at London’s Hyde Park last July.
During the Hyde Park performance, Nicks recalled Canadian country star Shania Twain also in attendance and asking to watch the show with her from the side of the stage “Shania and I watched Tom's show and sang at the top of our lungs. I look back on that and what a magical moment that was: Shania got to stand there with me and watch my boys.”
The “Edge Of Seventeen” singer also spoke on her personal conversation with Petty after coming out of rehab back in 1994, admitting to taking his advice while struggling to make music again.
“I asked Tom if he would help me write a song. And he said, ‘No. You are one of the premier songwriters of all time. You don't need me to write a song for you. Just go to your piano and write a good song. You can do that.’” Nicks told the Stone. “When I walked out of the Ritz-Carlton, I had that feeling that he would be waiting to hear it. The song is called ‘Hard Advice.’ It ended up on 24 Karat Gold.”
