What do The Weeknd, Kanye West and Deftones have in common? Their music is used to set the mood during intimate moments more than any other artists.
A study conducted by ZipHealth that surveyed 1,004 Americans revealed that Toronto's own The Weeknd is the most common artist appearing on sex playlists.
While he owned three of the top five songs found in sex-based playlists, The Weeknd did not have the most popular song of all. That would go to Nicki Minaj's 2022 Rick James-sampling hit “Super Freaky Girl,” which is definitely a choice.
Other songs in the top ten list include "The Hills," "Often," "Call Out My Name" (naturally) and "Earned It" by The Weeknd, "Closer" by Nine Inch Nails, "Love Is A Bitch" and "I Feel Like I'm Drowning" by Two Feet, "Or Nah (Remix)" by Ty Dolla $ign, The Weeknd Wiz Khalifa and DJ Mustard, and "Birthday Sex" by Jeremih.
After The Weeknd, the top artists found in sex playlists include Kanye West, Deftones, Drake, Lana Del Rey, Kendrick Lamar, Tyler, the Creator, Rihanna, Taylor Swift and Doja Cat.
The study also breaks down sex music by genres, with pop being the "sexiest," followed by R&B and hip-hop. Per genre, the top artists are the following: Bryson Tiller (R&B/Soul), The Weeknd (Pop), Arctic Monkeys (Indie Rock), Kanye West (Hip-hop/Rap), Deftones (Metal), and Hippie Sabotage (EDM).
There is quite a range of takeaways from the study, such as which genre makes the sex last longest (hip-hop) and shortest (EDM), and the average tempo of music (122 bpm), but the biggest discovery is that “people who said they listened to music during sex were generally more satisfied with their sex lives and had sex more often than those who didn’t.”
