Former Survivor bassist Stephan Ellis has died.
The band’s guitarist Frankie Sullivan shared the news on Facebook. A cause of death was not immediately disclosed.
“Steph was the guy who was only interested in the music. He absolutely had a special charm with the fans and within the band. I loved much when it came to Steph,” Sullivan wrote.
“I will miss Stephan, we all will. Stephan Ellis lived his own life in his own way and on his own terms.”
Ellis joined Survivor in 1981 and played on the group’s next five albums, including the hit 1982 release Eye of the Tiger. He returned to the band from 1996 to 1999 and did a few shows in 2005.
“A great musician and a great band mate,” tweeted original Survivor vocalist Dave Bickler. “One of a kind.”
