Rapper T.I. says he takes his teenage daughter to the gynaecologist every year to ensure she is still a virgin.
Appearing on the Ladies Like Us podcast, T.I. spoke about 18-year-old Deyjah Harris, who is attending her first year of college. Asked if he has had the “sex talk” with her, T.I. replied: “Not only have we had the conversation, we have yearly trips to the gynecologist to check her hymen.
“Yes, I go with her.”
Hosts Nazanin Mandi and Nadia Moham express shock at the revelation but laugh about it. It's not clear if T.I. was joking and neither he nor Deyjah has commented publicly.
T.I. acknowledged that the hymen can be “broken” in many ways besides through penetration. “So I say, ‘Look doc, she don’t ride no horses, she don’t ride no bike, she don’t play no sports, man. Just check the hymen please and give me back my results expeditiously,’” he said.
The 39-year-old rap star declared that “as of her 18th birthday, her hymen is still intact.”
T.I. doubled-down by suggesting being a virgin makes his daughter undesirable. "They’re no fun," he said. "Who wants a virgin. Like, really? All that work."
Deyjah, a model with 1.4 million Instagram followers, is T.I.’s daughter with R&B singer Ms. Niko, with whom he also has two sons. The rapper has another daughter and two sons with wife Tameka Cottle.
Not surprisingly, T.I.’s comments sparked disgust and criticism on social media.
“This is so overwhelmingly weird and toxic and he needs to be stopped,” tweeted one person. Another wrote: “Asking a doctor to check your daughter to see if she has been having sex is humiliating & sick af.”
