Talking Heads are set to reunite for a Q&A session at next month's Toronto International Film Festival. The event will coincide with the 4K remastering of their 1984 concert film, Stop Making Sense. A24 has acquired the rights to the restored film, which will debut at the festival and be livestreamed into different IMAX theaters across the world.
Spike Lee will host the Q&A, which will feature all four original members: David Byrne, Chris Frantz, Tina Weymouth, and Jerry Harrison. The four had previously reunited in 1999 for the 15th anniversary of the film, and in 2002 they even performed together when they were inducted into the Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame.
Relations between members have reportedly been strained since they broke up in 1991. When Frantz, Weymouth and Harrison reformed in the mid-'90s as the Heads, Byrne took legal action against the band to prevent them from using the name. Frantz aired some dirty laundry about Byrne in his 2020 book, Remain In Love, which likely didn't help matters. And then in an interview with The Sunday Times this past March, Weymouth and Frantz admitted to calling Byrne "Trumpian" and called him out for never referring to his former bandmates by name.
Judging by the promo A24 cut with Byrne earlier this year, he at least looks ready to have fun with the release, so here's to hoping it's all water under the bridge when they take the stage in September.
