Tanya Tagaq has two music videos in the running for the 2023 Prism Prize, it was announced Wednesday.
They were chosen from more than 300 eligible Canadian music videos reviewed by a jury of music industry insiders.
The Inuk singer, a JUNO and Polaris Prize winner, made the Top 10 with “Colonizer,” directed by Leah Fay Goldstein and Peter Dreimanis, and “Teeth Agape,” directed by David Seitz. Both songs are on Tagaq’s 2022 album Tongues.
Also up for this year’s Prism Prize is Jessie Reyez’s video for “Mutual Friend,” directed by Peter Huang.
“Canadian music videos have continuously pushed the boundaries of artistic expression and have become an important vehicle to showcase the immense talent and diversity in our country’s music scene,” said Prism Prize founder Louis Calabro, in a release. “Through their creativity and innovation, the Top 10 videos are not only entertaining but serve as inspiration for other emerging artists to challenge themselves and explore the endless possibilities of music video production.”
The winning artist and director, who will receive $20,000, will be announced at a ceremony on July 6 in Toronto.
The Top 10 videos can be viewed at PrismPrize.com and fans can vote for their favourites until June 15. (The Audience Award comes with a $5,000 prize).
