Taylor Swift has said she plans to re-record her early songs so Scott “Scooter” Braun can’t cash in on his purchase of her master recordings.
“Oh yeah,” the pop star said in an interview that will air on CBS Sunday Morning. “Yeah, absolutely.”
Appearing on GMA on Thursday, Swift said: "My contract says that starting November 2020, so next year, I can record albums one through five all over again."
She added: "I’m very excited about it. I think artists deserve to own their work. I just feel very passionately about that."
By recording new versions of hits like “Bad Blood” and “Shake It Off,” Swift would be able to own the recordings and collect royalties for them. Those versions would compete with her original recordings for streaming, downloads and airplay.
In June, Swift said in a Tumblr post that she was “sad and grossed out” that Braun acquired the rights to her first six albums and accused him of years of “incessant, manipulative bullying.”

Braun, who manages acts like Ariana Grande and Canada’s Justin Bieber, paid a reported $300 million U.S. for Scott Borchetta’s Big Machine Label Group, which Swift left last year to sign with Universal Music Group.
Def Leppard, ELO and Squeeze are among a handful of acts who have re-recorded their songs so they can have ownership of them.
