Taylor Swift has posted a message to Instagram addressing the horrific knife attack at a children's dance workshop in Stockport, England yesterday (July 29).
According to the BBC, three children were killed and eight others were injured after a 17-year-old male attacked a Taylor Swift-themed dance event at the Hart Space studio in Southport, a Merseyside town just north of Liverpool. Two adults said to be protecting the children were also injured.
The suspect was apprehended by Merseyside Police and he has since been charged on suspicion of murder and attempted murder.
“The horror of yesterday’s attack in Southport is washing over me continuously and I’m just completely in shock,” Swift wrote on her Instagram Stories. “The loss of life and innocence and the horrendous trauma inflicted on everyone who was there, the families, and first responders. These were just little kids at a dance class. I am at a complete loss for how to ever convey my sympathies to these families.”
In response to the attack, a group called Swifties for Southport have launching a crowdfunding page that has raised more than $300,000 CAD for Alder Hey Children's Hospital, which will go towards the families affected by the tragedy, as well as the funeral costs for the three young girls who were murdered.
The group added that all donations will "help make a difference to those impacted in a time of great sadness."
