Reputation. Maybe you’ve heard of it?
Taylor Swift’s new album is officially the best-selling album of the year.
According to Nielsen Music, Reputation – Swift’s sixth album and first since 2014’s 1989 – sold 1.05 million copies in the U.S. along in its first four days of release. It beats Ed Sheeran’s ÷, which was previously the top-selling album of 2017.
Reputation is the first album to sell a million copies in a week since Adele’s 25 sold 1.16 million copies in 2015.
It’s also Swift’s fourth consecutive album to have a million-selling week – making her the only artist to have that many million-selling weeks since Nielsen Music tracking began in 1991.
Reputation could even beat Swift’s 1989, which had first-week sales of 1.29 million.
The impressive numbers are thanks in large part to Swift’s decision to keep the album off streaming services like Apple Music and Spotify in its first week, forcing fans to buy it.
