Taylor Swift has been sued by two songwriters who have alleged that the pop star stole the lyrics for “Shake It Off.”
Sean Hall and Nathan Butler wrote the song “Playas Gonna Play” in 2001, which was performed by girl group 3LW, and are claiming that Swift’s song stole the phrases "Playas, they gonna play" and "Haters, they gonna hate."
Butler has also collaborated with Aaron Carter and The Backstreet Boys, while Hall has worked with Justin Bieber, P!nk, and Maroon 5.
According to TMZ, Swift and her legal team would like the case dismissed as Hall and Butler cannot "monopolize the idea that players will play and haters will hate” and claim “the phrases in question are too short to get legal protection.”
Meanwhile, Swift is preparing to hit the road in Spring for her 33-show reputation stadium tour, kicking off in May, with Canadian dates in Toronto on Aug. 3rd and 4th at Rogers Centre.
