Calgary pop duo Tegan and Sara will receive this year’s National Arts Centre Award at the Governor General’s Performing Arts Awards.
The twins are being recognized not only for their success in music but for their advocacy work for equality and LGBT rights.
“We are thrilled and extremely proud to be the 2018 recipients of Canada's @GovGPAA National Arts Centre Award,” tweeted Tegan and Sara. “We both feel quite honoured to be recognized at this level in our country.”
Singer-songwriter Murray McLauchlan is being honoured with a lifetime artistic achievement award.
The awards will be handed out at three events leading up to a gala in Ottawa on June 2.
