Rapper Tekashi 6ix9ine remains in U.S. federal custody facing at least 32 years in prison if convicted of federal racketeering and firearms charges.
The 22-year-old, whose real name is Daniel Hernandez, was arrested Sunday and was denied bail. He is already on probation for posting child pornography online and, in a separate incident, assaulting a police officer.
Prosecutors allege that 6ix9ine is a member of a violent street gang called Nine Trey Gangsta Bloods. Assistant U.S. Attorney Michael Longyear told reporters 6ix9ine “participated in multiple acts of violence.”
Appearing on a radio show last week, the rapper said: “There’s a difference between being a gang member and just being a dirty n***a, and 80 per cent of this industry is dirty n***as.”
TMZ reported earlier this month that as many as eight shots were fired at a Beverly Hills mansion where 6ix9ine was filming a music video with Kanye West.
