An alt-weekly in Texas is being praised for taking shots at Chris Brown in its concert listings.
This week’s issue of the San Antonio Current includes a blurb about the R&B singer’s Oct. 8th concert at the AT&T Centre.
“Do you have a lot of money laying around that you want to part with? Are you oddly attracted to garbage people that sing barely passably but dance pretty well? Are you indifferent to the idea of supporting unrepentant abusers? If you answered yes to all of the above, then, by all means, go see Chris F**king Brown.”
The concert listing appears in the print edition of the Current and on its website.
Brown is scheduled to perform with openers including Canada's Tory Lanez. (Other Canadian artists who have supported Brown include Justin Bieber, who has publicly defended Brown, and Drake, who recorded "No Guidance" with him.)
Readers are loving it. “Thank you … I bow down to your A+ writing,” reads one comment on Twitter. Another wrote: “WHO WROTE THIS ?!?!? THEY ARE MY IDOL.”
Another declared: “Excellent, truly excellent.”
It's not the first time the Current has called Brown out. In June, Chris Conde wrote: "We want to know how the singer continues to have a career despite the continued assault allegations that seem to follow him ... it still begs the question, 'Why do we continue to support this guy?' Especially when there are plenty of other R&B artists who can dance just as well and have clean records."
Brown pleaded guilty to assaulting then-girlfriend Rihanna in 2009.
He was arrested last July in Florida in connection with an incident involving a photographer at a Tampa club in 2017. In February 2017, Brown's ex Karrueche Tran was granted a five-year restraining order against the singer after she alleged that he threatened to kill her. A year earlier, Brown was charged after a woman called police to claim he threatened her with a gun.
In 2013, Brown was arrested for assault in Washington, D.C. after an altercation outside a hotel when two men tried to take a photo with him. The singer allegedly made a homophobic comment and then punched one of the men.
Brown cancelled concerts in Toronto and Montreal in 2015 after being denied entry to Canada due to his felony criminal conviction – but he managed to get into the country this past August to appear at Drake's OVO Fest.
