The Immediate Family, a group made up legendary session musicians, is returning to the stage this weekend for a live-streamed concert.
Danny Kortchmar, Waddy Wachtel, Leland Sklar, Russ Kunkel and Steve Postell will play the Coach House in San Juan Capistrano, California without a live audience on June 26 at 9:30 pm ET.
“This will be our first time performing together since COVID-19 nearly wiped out live music,” said Kortchmar, in a release. “My brothers in the band couldn’t be more thrilled to be back together again on one stage playing for the fans. Unfortunately, it’s still not safe for a crowd to join us in person, but that’s why we’re live-streaming the show for everyone who wants to be a part of it.”
Fans can sign up for the virtual show on Friday at alerttheglobe.com.
The Immediate Family members have played on albums from James Taylor, Don Henley, Billy Joel, Jackson Browne, Bryan Ferry, Stevie Nicks, Keith Richards, David Crosby, Warren Zevon, Phil Collins, Toto, Bob Dylan, and Canada’s Neil Young.
The band, which will release an EP later this year, is the subject of a documentary feature by director Denny Tedesco.
In April, Sklar spoke to iHeartRadio.ca about the impact COVID-19 has had on the group. “Here we are – just finished making a great album, there’s a documentary film being made about us, and now we’re all sitting here going ‘what the f**k are we going to do with any of this?’ … but will we ever be able to go out and gig? I just don’t know.”
