The Static Shift, an alternative blues/psychedelic rock trio from Calgary – comprised of Mitchell Brady, Keone Friesen and Isaiah Stonehouse – caught their first big break with the release of their raw, alt-rock version of “Wide Awake,” a song written by Nathan Barlowe and Bonnie J. Baker, on Wednesday’s episode of The Launch on CTV.
The group was chosen by founding Mötley Crüe member Nikki Sixx, producer Dann Huff, and record mogul Scott Borchetta.
The song is in rotation on iHeartRadio stations and is available for streaming and download on all platforms.
Following the audition process before the panel of celebrity mentors, The Static Shift and Amy Bishop were chosen to record and then perform their unique interpretations of “Wide Awake."
“We hope that everyone who hears the song really likes it and really appreciates what we are doing as artists, ‘cause thats something we’ve always wanted: I guess... respect,” Friesen said at the end of the episode.
Brady added: “The Static Shift can be the future of rock and roll."
The Static Shift began performing at the ages of 14, and were the youngest band to headline Calgary’s Blues Can. Since then, the band has gone on to win multiple awards and has shared the stage with artists such as Trooper, Colin James, and The Sheepdogs.
On last week’s The Launch, duo Elijah Woods x Jamie Fine were chosen to release “Ain’t Easy.”
Next week’s episode features Grammy Award-winning artist Fergie and Canadian composer/producer Stephan Moccio, creator of notable hits like “Wrecking Ball.”
Catch The Launch on Wednesday nights on CTV. (The Launch: Director's Cut is available on CTV.ca, CTV GO, and CraveTV immediately following the broadcast.)
