A competitor on the Australian edition of The Voice claims he could be the secret grandson of Elvis Presley.
On an episode of the singing contest that aired Tuesday, Dakota Striplin said his grandmother worked for Presley while living in Hawaii and, when he died in 1977, she “lost it.”
Striplin, 24, explained: “She was drinking for weeks, wouldn’t leave her room and it was kind of a big reaction to hearing about a celebrity dying.”
He claimed that his father took a DNA test a few years ago and found out that his dad wasn’t his biological father.
“The theory is that Elvis is my granddad,” said Striplin. “That would be pretty cool.”
Striplin auditioned on The Voice with Presley’s 1956 hit “Love Me Tender,” convincing coaches Kelly Rowland and Delta Goodrem to turn their chairs. (Striplin chose Rowland as his coach.)
On social media, some viewers were skeptical. “Anyone can study Elvis and learn his moves [and] talk like him, learn his deep southern accent,” one commented.
