The Weeknd has pushed back the release date of his new album, Hurry Up Tomorrow, “out of respect and concern for the people of LA county.”
Originally set to come out on January 24, the album will now drop one week later on January 31.
In a post to Instagram, the Canadian musician shared that he will also be cancelling the one-off show he was set to play at the Rose Bowl in Pasadena to commemorate the album release.''
He writes, “Out of respect and concern for the people of Los Angeles County, I am canceling the Rose Bowl concert originally scheduled for January 25th. This city has always been a profound source of inspiration for me, and my thoughts are with everyone impacted during this difficult time."
“In light of this, I have also decided to push the release of my album to January 31st," he adds. “My focus remains on supporting the recovery of these communities and aiding its incredible people as they rebuild. With love, Abel.”
Just last week, The Weeknd (real name Abel Tesfaye) discussed with Variety that Hurry Up Tomorrow, which completes his After Hours trilogy, could be the last album to feature his famously misspelled moniker.
“It’s a headspace I’ve gotta get into that I just don’t have any more desire for," he said. "I feel like it comes with so much ... You have a persona, but then you have the competition of it all. It becomes this rat race: more accolades, more success, more shows, more albums, more awards and more No. 1s. It never ends until you end it.”
