The Weeknd (aka Abel Tesfaye) has donated $2 million through his XO Humanitarian Fund to help families in Gaza.
Partnering with the United Nationals World Food Programme (WFP), the donation will provide 18 million loaves of bread to feel those in need.
More than 1,500 metric tons of fortified wheat flour will be sent to feed more than 157,000 Palestinians.
“With famine looming in Gaza, Abel’s generous support will provide vital relief for thousands of Palestinian families who battle the grip of hunger every day. We are tremendously grateful for his contribution, compassion and for his unwavering advocacy for WFP and the people of Palestine,” said Corinne Fleischer, WFP’s Director for the Middle East, North Africa and Eastern Europe Region.
Back in December, the Grammy-winning Canadian artist donated $2.5 million for emergency relief to aid the humanitarian efforts in Gaza. The money was used to provide 820 metric tons of food to feed approximately 173,000 Palestinians.
Previously he raised $5 million for the WFP to fight global hunger, including $1 to the Fund from each ticket sold for his North American Stadium Tour.
