The Who released a new song Thursday that's all about originality in the music industry.
In “All This Music Must Fade,” Roger Daltrey sings: "I don't mind other guys ripping off my song / I'd be a liar / If I said I never done no wrong / Oh, this sound that we share has already been played / and it hangs in the air."
According to Pete Townshend, the track is for every artist who has been accused of infringing on someone else’s song. (Despite the title, Daltrey sings "All This Music Will Fade" throughout the song.)
In a release, Townshend said: “Seriously? Our musical palette is limited enough in the 21st century without some dork claiming to have invented a common chord scheme.”
“All This Music Must Fade” is the second single from The Who’s new album WHO, which comes out Dec. 6.
The album recorded earlier this year in London and Los Angeles and produced by Townshend, D. Sardy and Dave Eringa.
“There is no theme, no concept, no story, just a set of songs that I (and my brother Simon) wrote to give Roger Daltrey some inspiration, challenges and scope for his newly revived singing voice,” explained Townshend, in a release.
