Damn, Kendrick Lamar's fans waste no time. Kung Fu Kenny's fourth album DAMN. was just released and his devotees have already come up with a theory of biblical proportions. Based off of a tweet from TDE producer Sounwave and lyrics from the pre-DAMN. single "The Heart Part 4", the theory suggests that K.Dot is dropping new music sooner than anyone could have imagined. Get your tin foil hats and let's dive down the rabbit hole, shall we?
The theory starts with a tweet by TDE producer Soundwave of Morpheus from The Matrix, a character who famously offered a red pill and a blue pill to Keanu Reeves' character, Neo. DAMN. uses the color red distinctly on the cover, suggesting that a blue-themed album is in the works. Gang culture plays a huge role in Kendrick's music and the red of DAMN. can be associated with the Bloods, while the blue follow-up can be associated with the Crips. He also tweeted "But what if I told you... that's not the official version.." after the album leaked.
On the first track on the album, "BLOOD," the Compton rapper dies in the song's narrative. While the album was leaked early, DAMN.'s official release was on Good Friday, the day Jesus was crucified. Three days later, Jesus was resurrected on Easter Sunday. Will the new project drop this Easter?
Still with us? Good. The next bit of info comes from "The Heart Part 4," a song Kendrick dropped before DAMN.'s release. “I dropped one classic and I came right back,” he spits on the song, hinting at his plans to drop back-to-back albums. He also raps, "My next album, the whole industry on a ice pack,” and “with TOC, you see the flames.” Fans think that "TOC" refers to "The Other Color," the blue contrast to DAMN.'s red. Listen to "The Heart Part 4" below.
Believe Kendrick has more music right around the corner, yet? Kendrick is a visionary, whose lyrics hold more depth and nuance than most could imagine. On the other hand, there are a lot of bored fans, trying to convince themselves there's more music on the way. Either way, our minds are blown.
