Thomas Rhett said this week he is taking a break from Instagram.
“Too much negativity on an app I spend too much time on,” the country star wrote in an Instagram Story. “I wish everyone a merry Christmas and a happy holiday. Much love, TR.”
Rhett’s decision came only days after he faced criticism for taking a vacation to Cabo San Lucas, Mexico during the pandemic.
“Thanks for the good times Cabo,” he captioned a series of photos. Wife Lauren Akins also shared a set of pics. “Thanks to a very kind friend, we got to go to Cabo, meet my new bestie (the goofiest sea lion named Poncho), eat fresh ahi tuna that we just caught and watch beautiful sunsets with sweet friends,” she wrote.
Rhett, who has 4.2 million followers on Instagram, regularly posts photos of his wife Lauren and their daughters Willa, Ada and Lennon.
In an interview with iHeartRadio.ca last year, Rhett was asked about the judgment and negativity of social media.
“Look, there’s haters everywhere and when we had kids we were a little bit cautious about what do we post about our kids,” he replied. “For a second there we were like, ‘We’re not posting about our kids, period.’
“But me and Lauren have been such open books about our lives ever since I got married when I was 22 that I feel like it felt odd to not still be open books about our lives when we had kids. Obviously there are things that we save for ourselves but sometimes those pics are just too cute to not post.”
