TLC is taking us "Way Back." The group is preparing to release their fifth and final studio album this summer (on June 30th), and are sharing a brand new song from the record called "Way Back," which features Snoop Dogg.
The new single throws it back to the glory days of '90s R&B that we know and love TLC the most for. A press release describes the new song for "those relationships which stay with you through good times and bad, and suggests a band not only reflecting on their sometimes-turbulent roots but facing forwards, to a bright future."
Fans got a taste of "Way Back" during a recent episode of FOX show Star (on Mar. 8), and if the classic sound on the cut is any indication of the rest of TLC's final record, we can't wait to hear the rest.
TLC will release their new album on June 30th, being their first full-length LP in 15 years, since 2002's 3D. The album all started through a Kickstarter campaign, which surpassed its goal, and actually became the most-funded in the company's history. And Katy Perry was one of the first people to donate.
The girls said on their Kickstarter page that their final album "will stay true to the TLC sound, always confronting the real issues and life experiences that we all must face every single day, everywhere. We write music that people relate to...timeless music. No matter the trends, we feel like our music is always relevant."
T-Boz and Chilli also noted that this is their first album without Lisa "Left Eye" Lopes, who tragically passed away in 2002 during a terrible car accident. The girls said, "This final album will be the first studio album by the two of us. Of course, Lisa's spirit will always be present in our music. That will never change."
