Tom Petty's version of "Leave Virginia Alone" has been released on the third anniversary of his death.
Petty wrote the song for his 1994 solo album Wildflowers, which he initially planned to make a double album, but cut the track because he reportedly thought it was too similar to another.
"Leave Virginia Alone" wound up in the hands of Rod Stewart, who made it a No. 1 hit on the Canadian charts in 1995.
Today, Petty’s recording is the fourth single from Wildflowers & All The Rest box set, due out Oct. 16. It features all 15 songs from Wildflowers and 10 that were left off.
