The city of Toronto will be getting a new stadium-sized concert venue located at the former site of Downsview Airport Lands.
Today (September 26) Live Nation Canada announced that it is building Rogers Stadium, "a seasonal outdoor concert venue opening at YZD (formerly Downsview Airport Lands) in 2025" that will help make "Toronto a must-play market for top level tours to host more world-class artists than ever."
The open-air facility will have a capacity of up to 50,000, and is set to open next June. (Which will make it an ideal venue for the Oasis reunion concert that is rumoured to be happening in Toronto next summer.)
According to Live Nation, Rogers Stadium will host between 12 to 15 shows per year over the summer season (beginning of June to the end of September), however, it will not serve as a permanent structure. The venue is scheduled to operate for approximately five years before the site is developed into a residential area.
The new venue will offer up an alternative to Rogers Centre, the home of the Toronto Blue Jays, which is currently the only venue in the city large enough to host artists such as Taylor Swift and Metallica, who are set to play the venue in the coming months.
