One of the members of Toronto’s Witchrot shared news this week of the metal band’s “extended hiatus” in an epic way.
“Due to the unfortunate reality of our guitarist f**king my girlfriend of almost 7 years WITCHROT will be taking an extended hiatus,” Peter Turik wrote in a Facebook post that included a photo of a smashed guitar laying in garbage.
“I however will continue the band in another space and time, being ripe with hate the music is slowly flowing and without a doubt will become the most devastating, torturous music I have ever created. Thanks for the support, stay heavy.
“Also our drummer died…”
The last statement is likely (hopefully!) nothing more than a Spinal Tap-inspired joke. (Turik did not immediately respond to an interview request.)
If the announcement was a publicity stunt, it worked. On social media, people are loving the announcement.
“idk who Witchrot is but I’m now a fan,” tweeted @JakobFrishmuth.
@MAB_Sports shared: “I wanna buy a WITCHROT album now” and @jpdiggins tweeted: “Now this is a metal band. Rock on, Witchrot.”
Witchrot released a self-titled four-song EP in October.
