Toronto’s ACC is going to become the SC.
The city’s main concert venue — and home to the Raptors and Maple Leafs — will be renamed Scotiabank Centre next July. It’s been the Air Canada Centre since it opened in 1999.
According to reports, Scotiabank will pay $800 million over 20 years for the naming rights.
Although it’s officially the Air Canada Centre, most Toronto residents refer to the venue as "the ACC” or “the hangar.”
The arena, which was ranked the 9th busiest concert venue in the world last year, can accommodate up to 19,800 people. The first concert staged in the building was The Tragically Hip on Feb. 22, 1999.
Bon Jovi has performed a record 17 times at the ACC.
Toronto’s biggest downtown cinema complex is branded as the Scotiabank Theatre and several hockey arenas in the region are named Scotiabank Pond.
Calgary's arena is called the Scotiabank Saddledome and Halifax has the Scotiabank Centre.
Ottawa's main concert venue, and home of the Senators, was branded Scotiabank Place from 2006 to 2013.
TSN was first to report news of the name change.
