Travis Scott will reportedly join Maroon 5 in the Super Bowl halftime show – and Meek Mill, for one, doesn’t know why.
“For what????,” tweeted Mill shortly after the news broke late Thursday. “He don’t need that he on fire already! Stay strong in this sh**!”
Variety cited sources as saying Jay-Z is trying to talk Scott out of taking the gig.
Scott is the first artist to agree to perform with Maroon 5 at the Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta on Feb. 3. Earlier this week, Variety reported that Adam Levine’s band was struggling to find collaborators.
Many artists are turning their back on the Super Bowl halftime spotlight because of the NFL’s opposition to players kneeling during the national anthem.
There is speculation that Cardi B will appear with Maroon 5 to do their hit “Girls Like You," even though she has publicly expressed solidarity with Colin Kaepernick, who started the kneeling protests.
Producers of the Super Bowl halftime show have not officially announced who will be performing.
Appearing on Ellen last month, Levine said he could not confirm not deny that Maroon 5 would be the halftime act.
“It's a great event and there's gonna be a band performing, or an artist of some kind performing at halftime,” he said. “And it's gonna be great regardless of who it is. Whoever is lucky enough to get that gig probably is gonna crush it.
"If it were me, I'd be excited, I'd be nervous. If I were doing it, which I can't confirm or deny I am, I would be excited.”
