Troye Sivan has called out an interviewer who asked him a “wildly invasive, strange and inappropriate” question.
Matt Fistonich of New Zealand LGBT publication Express finished a “quickfire” round of questions by asking the openly gay pop star if he was a “top or bottom.”
Sivan good-naturedly responded: “Ooo… definitely passing!”
But, on Twitter, Sivan acknowledged criticism of the personal question. “I thought about asking the interviewer about his absolute fave sex position after that last question,” he tweeted, “but then i remembered how wildly invasive, strange and inappropriate that would be. Didn’t stop him though!”
One fan tweeted an apology to Sivan “from the entirety of new zealand minus this person who we are now petitioning for to be removed from our country.”
Fistonich also asked Sivan if his boyfriend of nearly four years, Jacob Bixenman, would give him “a hall pass” so he could hook up with Shawn Mendes (who identifies as straight) and if he’s a fan of Will & Grace.
Sivan was also asked if he thinks Justin Bieber is hot or not. (His response? “Hot for sure.”)
On Wednesday, Sivan tweeted: “Next time I’ll just do a Twitter q&a.”
