The list of music stars willing to perform for the inauguration of Donald Trump is changing on a daily basis.
On Friday, Broadway singer Jennifer Holliday said she has dropped out of Trump’s Make American Great Again! Welcome Celebration on Jan. 19.
The Dreamgirls star said she made the decision after learning about the anger of her fans in the LGBT community.
“I sincerely apologize for my lapse of judgement, for being uneducated on the issues that affect every American at this crucial time in history and for causing such dismay and heartbreak to my fans,” Holliday wrote in an open letter to fans.
“Regretfully, I did not take into consideration that my performing for the concert would actually instead be taken as a political act against my own personal beliefs and be mistaken for support of Donald Trump and Mike Pence.”
Country music star Toby Keith said he is proud to perform at the event. “I don’t apologize for performing for our country or military,” he said in a statement to Entertainment Weekly.
Others taking the stage include 3 Doors Down and country singer Lee Greenwood.
"I don't know what's more embarrassing: 3 Doors Down having to play the Trump inauguration or Trump having 3 Doors Down play his inauguration," tweeted comedian Zach Heltzel.
Teen opera singer Jackie Evancho will be performing the national anthem at Trump’s inauguration on Jan. 20.
In early January, Trump tweeted that sales of Evancho's latest album "skyrocketed" after her involvement in his inauguration was announced. But industry insiders said her appearance on an America's Got Talent holiday special -- and the fact that her new album is a Christmas one -- were the main reasons for the small sales boost.
“I hope to just kind of make everyone forget about rivals and politics for a second and just think about America and the pretty song that I’m singing,” Evancho said on CBS Sunday Morning. “I’m hoping that I can bring people together.”
Writer Ruben Carbajal tweeted that the entertainment line-up means "we're a Ferris Wheel and a few funnel cakes shy of a State Fair."
Reps for R Kelly took to Twitter late last week to shoot down rumours that he is performing at the inauguration.
Among those who reportedly turned down offers to be involved in the celebrations are Canada’s Celine Dion and David Foster.
Canadian icon Paul Anka said he backed out of performing "My Way" at Trump's inaugural gala ball due to a scheduling conflct and not for political reasons.
At Barack Obama’s 2009 inauguration, stars including Beyoncé, Jon Bon Jovi, U2, Sheryl Crow, John Legend, Usher, Bruce Springsteen and Shakira performed.
