Twitter has suspended the account of rock band Trapt after frontman Chris Taylor Brown appeared to endorse statutory rape.
A message at @TRAPTOFFICIAL reads: “Twitter suspends accounts which violate the Twitter Rules.”
Defending past comments he has made on the platform, Brown tweeted: “A 15 year male and a 25 year old female is not pedophilia, you f**king moron” and “I wouldn’t care if a 15 year old boy banged his 25 year old teacher.”
In most jurisdictions, a 15-year-old can’t consent to sex with a 25-year-old.
Last month, Brown vowed to sue Facebook after the band’s official page on the social media platform was removed for allegedly violating community standards.
The action was taken after Brown posted an image of a Proud Boy holding Lady Liberty with the words: “Don’t Worry Girl, We Got You.” Proud Boys has been labelled a white supremacist group by U.S. intelligence agencies.
Brown said Facebook, which also deleted his personal Instagram profile, “really has it out for me” and is “only about escape, distraction, and lies.”
Trapt, best known for its 2002 hit “Headstrong," has released eight studio albums since 1999. Its latest, Shadow Work, reportedly sold only 600 copies in its first week (Brown claimed the figure is closer to 4,000). Back in May, a tweet from Trapt boasted that the new album "is the best piece of music trapt has put out and probably one of the top 5 albums that will ever exist for all of time."
