Longtime Van Halen bassist Michael Anthony says there's never going to be a better time than now for his former band to bury its many hatchets and tour with himself and both of its iconic frontmen.
“You obviously see all of these other bands doing it these days,” Anthony told Ohio’s News-Herald.
“And also for Van Halen’s fans. Maybe some kind of proper closure or something."
The bassist is taking a pragmatic approach. "Everybody in the band is still relatively healthy and alive. So there’s one thing right there. And [Sammy Hagar] has brought it up quite a few times in interviews he’s done.”
The last time David Lee Roth and Hagar toured together, it ended poorly. Hagar said in his autobiography, Red: My Uncensored Life in Rock that the tour was devised by he and Roth "just to piss off Van Halen…"
Anthony recalled: ”[Things] got maybe a little strained. But at this point, I personally am through with all of the drama that comes with everything. I want to go out, play music and have a good time.
“I want to go to my grave a happy guy."
Anthony and Hagar are touring this summer with The Circle. He adds that Chickenfoot "will be back, by the way, at some point. If we can ever get our drummer [Chad Smith] off the road with the Chili Peppers.”
