Mötley Crüe frontman Vince Neil’s birthday message for a fan is getting some attention for all the wrong reasons.
Last month, Christian Scheeler of Tampa, Florida ordered a greeting from the 59-year-old rocker via Cameo, where celebrities sell custom video messages, for his younger brother Derek Scheeler.
Christian paid $400 U.S. and asked Neil to say: “Happy Birthday to Derek from Christian, Mom, Tanya, Ethan and Blake. Shout at the devil to start off this new decade and take the opportunity to kickstart your auto search and sales!! Listen to the Dr. and feelgood about the big 4-0 in 2020.”
The greeting in the 25-second video Derek received was very different. Neil mangled the birthday boy’s name, failed to mention Tanya and slurred his words throughout.
“My favourite singer of all time called me ‘Decker! Hahahahaha!,” Derek commented on Cameo. “That is now my new nickname! Amazing!”
Christian, who is planning to be with his brother to see Neil and his band perform in Miami Gardens on July 7, is also taking the messed-up video in stride. “We honestly find it hysterical,” he shared on YouTube.
Neil, who pleaded guilty to DUI in 2011 and was charged in a drunk driving accident in 1984 that killed a 24-year-old musician, spoke about his love of alcohol while on The Celebrity Apprentice in 2017.
“You can't put your sobriety on everybody else,” he said. “If you choose not to drink, don't drink. But I'm way over 21.”
