Eighties pop band a-ha is marking the 35th anniversary of the iconic video for its hit “Take On Me” with a 4K restoration.
According to a press release, “most music videos from this time were edited in tape format, while this clip was uniquely restored from the original 35mm film reels.”
A-ha is hoping the remastered version of the video will help push its total views past 1 billion – which would make it the first pop music video of the ‘80s to reach the milestone.
“Take On Me” has been played over 977 million times on YouTube since it was posted in January 2010.
The video, directed by Steve Barron, was actually the second one made for the Norwegian group’s 1984 song. Filmed at a London café and on a soundstage, it was innovative for its use of rotoscoping, a process of blending of live-action and pencil animation that took 16 weeks to complete.
