Canada’s Alessia Cara did impressions of Ariana Grande, Nicki Minaj and Lorde during an appearance Friday on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon.
During a Wheel of Musical Impressions segment, the Ontario-born pop star channeled Grande for a version of “Skidamarink,” the preschool song made famous in Cara’s native country by Sharon, Lois & Bram.
Cara then mimicked Minaj doing the theme to Fresh Prince of Bel-Air and finished with her impression of Lorde singing “Ba Ba Black Sheep.”
Cara, 20, was on The Tonight Show to promote her appearance as the musical guest on Saturday Night Live.
Cara will be the third Canadian artist on SNL this season and the ninth Canadian female solo artist to perform on the show since its debut in 1975.
(Earlier this season, Shawn Mendes became the ninth solo male Canadian artist.)
Cara is also the youngest Canadian female since Avril Lavigne, then 19, first performed on the show in 2003.
Rumour are swirling that Cara will debut a collaboration with German DJ-producer Zedd on SNL. On Twitter, he encouraged fans to tune in to the show. “Some of you might see something special,” he teased.
Cara also dropped a hint. “Don’t change the channel during commercials,” she tweeted. “Just sayin!!!”
The singer pulled out of RedFest in Dubai for the opportunity to perform on SNL — something she publicly dreamed of doing more than four years ago.
On The Tonight Show, Fallon displayed a tweet by Cara from July 8, 2012 in which she wrote: “I wanna go on SNL one day.”
