Beyoncé on Tuesday night debuted the video for “Spirit,” the first single from The Lion King: The Gift.
Queen Bey appeared on primetime TV to talk about the collection of 14 songs – including one featuring Canada’s Jessie Reyez – that she executive-produced. The album comes out Friday, the same day the remake of The Lion King hits cinemas.
“We've kind of created our own genre and I feel like the soundtrack is the first soundtrack where it becomes visual in your mind,” Beyoncé, who voices Nala in the film, told ABC News. “The soundscape is more than just the music because each song tells the story of the film.”
In addition to “Spirit,” Beyoncé contributes nine other tracks, featuring artists like Childish Gambino, Pharrell Williams, Kendrick Lamar, and her husband Jay-Z.
The “Spirit” video, which incorporates clips from the movie (as well as scenes recently shot at Havasu Falls in the Grand Canyon) features a cameo from Beyoncé’s daughter Blue Ivy.
