Beyoncé has released a trailer for Black Is King, her new visual album debuting July 31st on Disney’s streaming service.
“You were formed by the heat of the galaxy,” she says in a voice-over. “What a thing to be, both unique and familiar. To be one and the same, and still unlike any other.”
Black Is King, inspired by The Lion King: The Gift, features Bey’s husband Jay-Z, her mom Tina Knowles-Lawson and her former Destiny’s Child member Kelly Rowland as well as Pharrell Williams, Lupita Nyong’o, Naomi Campbell and others.
The visual album was written, directed and executive produced by Beyoncé.
According to a release from Disney, Black Is King honours “the voyages of Black families throughout time” and is “an affirmation of a grand purpose, with lush visuals that celebrate Black resilience and culture.”
