Billy Gilman surrendered to his inner diva Monday night to belt out the Celine Dion hit “I Surrender” on The Voice.
The 28-year-old Season 11 competitor had all four coaches on their feet at the end of his Top 8 performance.
“I literally can't feel my legs,” Gilman tweeted. “I was so nervous it was beyond belief. I hope you loved that. I Surrender to you ALL. #THANKYOU”
Gilman rendition of the anthem, which was written by Louis Biancaniello and Sam Watters and appears on Dion’s 2002 album A New Day Has Come, wasn’t note-perfect but it was delivered with passion.
On social media, fans were blown away — and Gilman certainly took notice. “Wow all your love is amazing,” he tweeted. “Thank you thank you.”
Gilman, of course, is no novice. He had a successful country music career before he was a teenager (his 2000 debut album, One Voice, went double platinum in the U.S.) but hadn’t released any new music for 10 years before auditioning for The Voice.
In 2014, Gilman publicly came out as gay.
