After five years of coaching on The Voice, it was high time for Blake Shelton to employ those skills at one of his concerts.
At an Oct. 1 show, Shelton decided to mentor his audience, complimenting his fans on their singalong skills.
“For 29,000 people in here it’s unbelievable for that many people to be right on pitch," he said. "I actually think the really good singers are making up for the really sucky ones, and it comes together and that’s cool.”
But then came the constructive criticism.
“The thing that bothers me about your singing is just the actual tone of your voices," Shelton told the crowd. "It's like the sound of your voices is irritating."
Laughs turned into boos, but the country star wasn't stopping there. He went on to tell fans that they just sounded like a "bunch of hillbillies."
It turned out the whole thing was a setup for the song "Hillbilly Bone."
