Canadian collective Broken Social Scene have taken the wraps off their first new song in seven years, “Halfway Home.”
BSS debuted the song with a performance on Thursday’s The Late Show with Stephen Colbert, featuring Metric’s Emily Haines and James Shaw and Stars’ Amy Millan and Evan Cranley.
In December, BSS member Kevin Drew said the 2015 terrorist attacks in Paris sparked the decision to record a new album.
“Everyone sort of got on the phone within the small tribe of us and said, ‘I want to play some shows,’” he explained.
“That just effected a lot of people because it was so close to home. So close to home.”
The new album will be the first collection of songs from BSS since 2010’s Forgiveness Rock Record.
Broken Social Scene will play some shows in Europe in May followed by a June 3 appearance at Toronto’s Field Trip festival and at Osheaga in Montreal in early August.
