Concerts these days can run late, and for some fans that means showing up to work or school the next day late. Or not at all. Bruce Springsteen is all for his fans playing hooky.
The Boss performed a three-hour-long, sold-out show at the Chase Center, San Francisco, CA on Sunday night (March 31) and a sign in the front of the crowd caught his eye, saying, "Skipping School Sign My Note?" Being the good-hearted rock'n'roll legend that he is, Springsteen knew his concerts would run late enough to make a student need to skip school, so he obliged.
Video shot by fan Karen Pitcher Scovell was shared on Facebook, showing the 74-year-old singer-songwriter taking the sign to hold up for the crowd to see, then proceeding to sign the absentee letter on bended knee. See the video below.
"No words!!!!! To be in such close proximity to greatness was more than I had ever expected," wrote Scovell. "Bruce knelt down directly in front of me to sign a school excuse for the little girl behind me."
Of course, the crowd loved it, and it perfectly capped off the night's encore, which ended with a cover of "Twist and Shout."
Sunday night was a big night for Springsteen as he also appeared on the latest episode of HBO's Curb Your Enthusiasm, where he is forced to cancel some gigs thanks to the show's star Larry David, who gives him COVID. See a clip below.
