Dave Chappelle and John Mayer were having a ball, earlier this week, thanks to a couple of classics by Nirvana and Tom Petty.
Taking a minor detour from the comedy life, Chappelle jammed out with his friend Mayer at Los Angeles' Hotel Cafe on Jan. 4. The duo has been known to collab but this was the first time we've seen them playfully singing together onstage.
Mayer and Chappelle put on a fun set, as they covered Nirvana's "Come As You Are" and Tom Petty's "Free Fallin'." Luckily, people at the secret show captured video of the performance. Check out two clips from it below.
One audience member even spoke about how much he enjoyed the two's 30-minute set on IG. "Dave Chappelle jumped on stage and messed around w/ John Mayer for a good 30 minutes," they said. "The highlight was when he told the story of his last time hanging with Prince @ the White House. He said that Prince and Stevie Wonder got on the same Piano and played songs together."
The IG user added, "He said that he missed Prince's laugh. Beautiful heartfelt moments from a master entertainer and storyteller + we rawked! Super fun nite."
This secret show was in support of Mayer's upcoming album, The Search for Everything. Chappelle is currently working on his three upcoming Netflix shows. We're glad they had time to rock out a bit, during their hectic schedules.
