A New York ER nurse on the frontlines of the COVID-19 battle was surprised this week with a private performance by Foo Fighters frontman Dave Grohl.
TJ Riley, who works at the Jacobi Medical Center in the Bronx, contracted COVID-19 along with about 60 percent of his coworkers, his parents and his husband Fred. He was recognized on Monday’s episode of Jimmy Kimmel Live as a “Health Care Hero” and gifted with $10,000 U.S.
Grohl suddenly popped into the conversation to surprise Riley, who is a big Foo Fighters fan.
“I feel like I’m having a coronavirus dream,” said Riley.
Grohl played an acoustic version of “Everlong” before praising the nurse for the work he’s doing during the pandemic.
“Really, TJ, thank you so much for everything that you’ve done for so many people,” Grohl said. “It’s much appreciated.”
