If you were not in the audience last September for the world premiere of Teen Spirit at the Toronto International Film Festival (or earlier this month at SXSW), this is likely your first look at Elle Fanning’s performance of “Dancing On My Own.”
The 20-year-old stars as Violet, a young woman from a small European town who enters a singing competition in hopes of being able to pursue a music career. Teen Spirit, which was partly shot in Montreal, is described as “a visceral and stylish spin on the Cinderella story.”
Swedish pop star Robyn’s 2010 hit “Dancing On My Own” has been covered many times – most notably by Calum Scott.
In the film, which opens in cinemas on April 5, Fanning also covers songs by Ellie Goulding, Annie Lennox, and Canadians Tegan & Sara and Carly Rae Jepsen.
The soundtrack also features music by Ariana Grande, Katy Petty, Major Lazer, No Doubt and Canada’s Grimes.
