A new video goes behind the scenes to show Gord Downie recording a song for his posthumous solo release, Introduce Yerself.
The Tragically Hip frontman died Oct. 18 after a battle with brain cancer.
In a video posted online Thursday, Downie is seen and heard recording vocals for “The North,” the last song on the album.
Introduce Yerself is a 23-track collection of songs written and produced by Downie and Broken Social Scene’s Kevin Drew and recorded over eight days.
“A lot of these, I wrote the words in advance, like poems,” Downie explained. “I'd get one or two a day and then I'd have to stop. Because that's about all... the soul or whatever, would give up.
“Kev gave me about half the songs, I wrote half the songs, and he'd send me through stuff like a piece of music on his piano… And then 20 minutes later I'd send him back the thing. It was really more just a celebration of our friendship.”
Introduce Yerself is out now.
