Green Day has released a video for their song “Troubled Times” that includes news clips of last weekend’s mayhem in Charlottesville, Virginia.
“What part of history we learned / When it's repeated,” frontman Billie Joe Armstrong sings in the track, which comes from the band’s 2016 album Revolution Radio.
The video features footage of violent incidents, environmental disasters, and desperate refugees — as well as U.S. president Donald Trump.
The video comes after Armstrong shared his views on the alt-right protests in Charlottesville in a Facebook post.
“I feel like what happened in Charlottesville goes beyond the point of anger. It makes me sad and desperate. shocked,” he wrote. “I f**king hate racism more than anything.
“Music and social justice have always gone hand and hand with me. We wouldn’t be here if it wasn’t for ‘the time they are a changing’ .. some people don’t agree.”
Armstrong said Green Day has always been about rising above oppression and standing up for one’s beliefs. “Nazi punks f**k off,” he wrote.
