Canada’s Jessie Reyez recently braved the popular EdgeWalk attraction atop Toronto’s CN Tower to deliver versions of the U.S. and Canadian anthems.
The performances, which were taped Aug. 13, were broadcast on Monday ahead of Game 1 of the first-round playoff series between the Toronto Raptors and Brooklyn Nets.
Notably, Reyez took a knee for both anthems.
Before the performance of “The Star-Spangled Banner” – which was not shown on the Canadian broadcast – the 29-year-old singer pulled down a black face mask emblazoned with the name of Breonna Taylor. Taylor was fatally shot by Louisville police officers after her husband opened fire at officers executing a no-knock warrant.
Reyez released her debut album Before Love Came to Kill Us in March.
EdgeWalk is a 1.5-metre platform around the CN Tower’s main pod 356 metres above the ground.
