Rock band Stone Temple Pilots kicked off their tour with new lead singer Jeff Gutt on Friday night in Santa Clarita, California – a surprise appearance by actor Johnny Depp.
During the band’s encore performance, Depp – also a musician/guitarist in his own right – performed “Sex Type Thing” and a cover of MC5’s “Kick Out The Jams.”
Depp formed the Hollywood Vampires in 2015 with Alice Cooper and Joe Perry to honour the music of rock stars that died during the 1970s. Depp also lent his guitar stylings on Oasis’ 1997 Be Here Now track “Fade In-Out.”

Gutt, a former X Factor contestant, recently joined the band as their now third lead vocalist, after Scott Weiland and Chester Bennington.
During the new frontman’s first concert with the Stone Temple Pilots, Gutt sang songs from previous albums, including rarely performed tracks like “Glide” and “Regeneration,” as well as hits like “Meadow,” and debuted live for the first time “Roll Me Under,” a single off the band’s forthcoming self-titled album.
